Topics for this post:
- Voter Forum on Thursday
- Violet Inn Façade Grant
I’ll write a longer recap on the Airbnb work session from last week, but I wanted to get a couple important points out before the city council meeting tonight.
Voter Forum on Thursday
The first city council voter forum is this Thursday, March 6, at 6:30 pm in the senior center, located in the back of the Community House. The League of Women Voters is hosting the event.
While it will likely be streamed on YouTube, it’s important for residents to attend in person and ask the questions that matter to them. Otherwise, you’ll end up with current and former council members dominating the discussion.
Examples of real questions that get asked when residents don’t show up:
- What does “industry” mean to you?
- What do you think of the revolving loan fund?
Please come and ask about taxes, crime, jobs… Anything that actually affects you.
Violet Inn Façade Grant
Tonight, Monday, March 3, the city council will vote on a façade grant for the Violet Inn, formerly the Elk’s Club at 1415 16th Street. You can view the floor plans and project details.
Back in October, city council approved a $130k TIF grant, and prior to that the BIDC (city committee) approved a $200k loan.
The grant up for vote is a $20,000 matching grant, combined with a $5,000 Main Street grant. This means that if the Violet Inn invests $50,000 in exterior improvements, the city and Main Street will reimburse them $25,000.
Planned improvements include:
- Replacing damaged woodwork
- Replacing four windows
- Painting the building
- Repairing the brick and stone
- Creating and installing a sign
- Landscaping
- Painting a mural on the side facing Cobblestone hotel
